When fic goes bad and uses really obvious descriptors of a character in order to avoid referencing them by name more than once in a story

me: starring the other dark haired who might be the protagonist of the actual show but is inconsequential to their love so he'll be over there somewhere

I like to think that I've so far managed to avoid doing just that *checks fic*

I remember googling "how to write good fic" (or something like that) and it was mentioned a few times as something that you should avoid doing at all costs. I listened to that advice *checks fic again*, but a lot of writers didn't.

*waves* this gave me the LOLs. Gundam Wing fiction is the WORST at this. 'The long-haired man', 'the Arabian boy' 'his blue orbs looked into the long-haired man's purple orbs' LOL ALWAYS WITH THE ORBS.
I have to admit though, I'm already pretty fond of the mole-spotted teen...

Orbs! ORBS! fandom is an amazing thing. This should lead to an amazing crossover! Ohmanohman I can already imagine long-haired man's purple orbs tracing over mole-spotted teen's moles...

Not in that fandom, but this sort of thing is so pervasive that most authors I know of have done it at least once (*cough* early fics, because descriptors are good! *cough* Thank goodness most learn how to descriptor properly! xD), and eventually your reaction choices boil down to "storm off in outraged huff" or "mock and lol".

I usually pick the second one. With lots of eyerolling. xD

*shifty eyes* I'm probably very guilty of this (oh early fic days, you were dark times), it's almost a rite of passage! And then we learn and we mock and lol, because we love. :D :D The "endless amusement" road is a fruitful one indeed

Even though I'm not in the fandom, my capacity for fannish osmosis must be hardcore because it pinged as Teen Wolf before I got to 'the incompetent alpha'. *shakes head and guffaws*
